The Proposal
After meeting our freshman year of college at the University of Alabama, Justin and I became best friends and stayed that way until January 2007 when we finally got the chance to start dating. Fast forward to July 2008 … Justin had planned a long weekend trip to Destin with another couple who lived in Mobile. This was going to be our first summer beach trip and I was so excited to get to hang out with my best friend Rebecca and her new husband. On our drive to Destin I received a few text messages from my friend saying that they would be arriving a little later than expected due to work constraints but to just wait for them at the condo. After we arrived at the condo and fixed a drink, Justin suggested watching the sunset out on the balcony. My mind was focused on the arrival of our friends so when Justin handed me a velvet bag, my heart dropped. As I opened it, I found an old wine cork that he had saved from a bottle of wine we shared back during our senior year of college. I was touched but confused until I turned around and found him on his knee… Little did I know, our friends were not coming for the weekend but were just used as a cover up to keep his proposal a secret. We spent the rest of the weekend enjoying the sun, sand and calling our friends & family…
